Let's talk for a minute about the 2004 Presidential Election between George W. Bush and John Kerry. While we all know how close the final vote count was, very few people seem to realize why it was so close.
If you look at the country as just land mass, Bush ran away with the election. The key for John Kerry which made the election so close is that he won the major metropolitan cities with the exception of Dallas and Houston.
This led me to wonder why there was such a difference between people who live in the country and people who live in the city. The conclusion that I arrived at was that people in the country are used to fixing their own problems and people in the city are used to complaining to a governmental authority until the problem goes away.
Below is a map of the county by county results for the 2004 Presidential Election.
